What you need to know
Are you ready to kick your tobacco habit? The Quit Tobacco Health Action Plan can help. You’ll work one-on-one with an onsite health educator to tackle the physical addiction to tobacco, explore medication options, and develop skills that will help you quit and stay tobacco-free.
How the Plan Works
This 90-day program is aimed at developing and implementing your personal tobacco quitting plan.
Employee spouses are not eligible to participate in this Health Action Plan. But, those enrolled in Sandia medical coverage can complete certain activities for up to $50 each year. Go to Join a Health Action Plan to learn more.

Resources and Supporting Activities
- Fitness facilities – Fitness facilities are open to the entire workforce and offer a variety of cardio and resistance training equipment, perfect for morning, lunchtime, or after-work exercise sessions. To use the facilities, you must complete the PAR-Q form, and in New Mexico, you must also schedule a gym orientation. Call 505-844-2437 to schedule your orientation.
- Energy Hubs – Our Energy Hub locations are spaces for mindfulness, meditation, stretching, and movement that can help you recharge, restore, and renew your mind and body for increased productivity, health, and safety.
- Journaling – Think about what has triggered you to want to smoke/chew and write it down. Look at your list of triggers and identify ways to overcome them.
- Deep breathing – For many, smoking/chewing serves as a stress reliever. Instead of using tobacco products to relieve stress, try taking a few moments to do a deep breathing exercise. The Breathe to Relax video can help.
