Buddy Program – New Employee

What is a Buddy?

A Buddy is a respected Sandian who partners with you during your first three months. They provide a single point-of-contact for questions, insights about unwritten rules, and connections with colleagues. Your Buddy will help you integrate into Sandia’s culture and work environment.

Benefits of having a Buddy

  • Navigate unwritten rules and formal policies
  • Acclimate to Sandia’s culture and make connections
  • Reduce anxiety and confusion about your new role
  • Gain insights on networking and resources available at Sandia
  • Build self-confidence and enhance your onboarding experience

Having a conversation with your Buddy

Engage in meaningful conversations with your Buddy. Consider asking:

  • What is important to know about Sandia’s culture?
  • What do you enjoy about your role at Sandia?
  • What tips can you share for success in my new position?
  • How do I know if I am entering a limited area?
  • What are the best places to eat on campus or nearby?

Recognizing your Buddy

You may continue the relationship with your Buddy beyond the proposed three months. If you had a positive Buddy experience, consider recognizing them through the Thunderbird Kudos Corporate Peer-to-Peer Recognition Program.
