Virtual Care Visits
Employee Health & Wellbeing Services offers the following virtual telemedicine services:
- Return-to-work exams. Depending on diagnosis, by telephone or Microsoft Teams audio and video
- Personal health care. With provider consent and depending on diagnosis, by telephone or in-person visits
- Health management clinic. With provider consent and depending on diagnosis, by telephone or in-person visits
- Employee Assistance Program/behavioral health. With provider consent, by telephone, Microsoft Teams audio and video, or in-person visits
- Preventive health coaching. With provider consent and depending on diagnosis, by telephone, Microsoft Teams audio and video, or in-person visits
- Fitness classes. By Microsoft Teams one-way audio and video
Preventive Care
Our Preventive Health team provides you with tools to help improve your health and wellness in four key areas: Nourish, Move, Thrive, and Recharge. Providers on the team hold degrees in health education, exercise physiology and science, and nutrition. Each health coach has a minimum of a B.S. degree and at least three years of experience. Most have graduate degrees and hold advanced certifications. You can choose from one-on-one health coaching, group fitness classes, and health education classes.
Manage a Chronic Condition
The health management clinic is an on-site specialty clinic designed to fill potential gaps in your care and provide health management support for the following concerns:
- Prediabetes
- Diabetes (New Mexico only)
- High cholesterol
- Blood pressure disorders
- Depression and anxiety
- Tobacco cessation
- Weight management

Acute Care
The acute care clinic offers personal health care services for minor illness and injuries, such as:
- Sore throat or flu symptoms
- Rashes
- Joint sprains
- Urinary tract infections
You can also visit the clinic for a flare-up or complication from a chronic condition that requires immediate treatment. When you do, you will receive a referral to follow up with your primary care provider.
Personal health care services are also provided by referral for allergy shots, physical therapy, laboratory tests and screenings, and X-rays.

Emergency Care
The Sandia on-site clinic provides emergency care to employees, contractors and site visitors. If you are at Sandia and have a medical emergency, you may be transported to Sandia’s clinic or an off-site hospital emergency room.

Always call 911 if you experience:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Severe abdominal pain
- Uterine contractions in pregnancy

- Stroke symptoms (unilateral numbness, weakness, slurred speech, or poor balance)
- Fractures
- Head injuries
- Seizures
- Lacerations
- Severe pain
- Possible poisoning
- Drug overdose
- Suicidal thoughts
- Severe bleeding

- Severe hives
Immunizations
Protect yourself every flu season by getting your flu vaccination through Sandia’s annual on-site flu shot clinic. If you’re a Sandia employee, you can get a free flu shot.
If you have flu symptoms, stay home, rest, hydrate and treat symptoms with over-the-counter medications. Please follow CDC guidelines.

Allergy Treatment
You can save time and money when you visit Sandia’s allergy shot clinic for receive your allergy shots.
Before visiting a Sandia on-site clinic for your allergy shots, you need to have your initial injection from your allergist or personal doctor. Be sure to bring the following with you on your first visit:
- An authorization from your allergist
- Your allergy extract
- Your injection schedule and instructions from your allergist
Plan to stay at the allergy shot clinic for 30 minutes after your injection to make sure you don’t have an adverse reaction.
After your initial appointment, you don’t need appointments for follow-up visits. Simply walk in at your convenience.

Lab Tests and X-rays
You can get X-rays, lab tests and phlebotomy services at Sandia’s medical clinics. This saves you a trip to an off-site clinic and helps Sandia’s health professionals and your off-site primary care physician diagnose, treat and monitor your health.
We provide lab services for:
- Occupational health monitoring
- Disease management
- Preventive screenings
- Personal health care
- Urgent health care needs

Physical Therapy
Sandia’s physical therapy clinic provides:
- Treatment for musculoskeletal conditions
- Outpatient services to help you recover from work-related injuries, non-work-related injuries, and surgeries
- Job placement assessments
- Preventive care consultations and education
To use a Sandia physical therapy clinic, you must meet the following requirements:
- You will need a referral from your physician (or other medical provider such as a P.A., C.N.P or D.P.M) issued within the previous 30 days.
- If you have a post-surgical referral, it must come from your surgeon.
- Other referrals can come from off-site providers or on-site providers at the Sandia medical clinic.
- Your injury must be orthopedic in nature and not related to a motor vehicle accident.
- Patients undergoing physical therapy treatment from an off-site clinic will not be transferred on-site.
