What you need to know
Sandia offers all members of our workforce access to onsite fitness and wellness facilities and resources.
You can meet with a fitness professional to develop a fitness or workout plan, participate in fitness classes, and use fitness facilities on or near Sandia sites.
Stop by an Energy Hub for a brief meditation or stretching break, or take a walk outside on campus.
Sandia also provides private and inviting spaces for nursing mothers.
Who Can Use Our Facilities and Classes
Employees have unlimited access to Sandia’s fitness facilities and classes.
Contractors have access to these services as space permits, as well as unlimited access to Energy Hubs and walking loops (New Mexico).
You need to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form before participating in any Sandia fitness activity (aside from walking loops).
After you complete and submit your PAR-Q, allow a minimum of two days for it to process. You will receive your medical clearance notification by email as soon as possible.
Fitness Assessments
Make an appointment with Sandia Employee Health and Wellbeing at 505-844-1840 to assess your current fitness level.
You will meet with a fitness professional who will measure your aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, and flexibility.
You can also discuss the support you may need for managing a chronic condition, like diabetes, or problems with your posture.
Before your appointment:
- Complete your Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form
- Complete your online health assessment if you haven’t done so within the past year
Be sure to come to your appointment in workout attire and athletic shoes.
Ready to try the Virgin Pulse “test out” challenge?
You can complete a fitness assessment each quarter and earn 4,500 Virgin Pulse points when you meet a few key fitness measures (strength, BMI, flexibility).
Fitness Classes
Sandia offers a host of resources to help you get and stay fit. From boot camps, intervals, and indoor cycling to yoga and kettlebells, we offer something for everyone.
To participate in a Sandia fitness class, you first need to complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form.
Also, you will be asked to swipe your badge at the kiosk prior to your class or event.
You can view the group fitness schedule and sort by instructor and location to see what’s happening in your neck of the woods.
Walking and Running Groups and Events
In New Mexico, you will find many of your fellow Sandians committed to walking and running competitively and for fun. You can join a monthly mile run or walk on the first Tuesday of each month. We also get together to train for your first (or 20th) 5K event and offer ideas for getting ready for even longer events.
New Mexico Facilities
In New Mexico, the corporate fitness facility in Building 956 is open to the entire workforce and offers a variety of cardio and resistance training equipment. To be placed on the access list, you need to:
- Complete and submit the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form
- Attend a gym orientation meeting (call 505-284-4700 to schedule; the orientation will take about 15 minutes).
Also, employees in New Mexico can use the Kirtland Air Force Base East fitness center. This facility offers cardio exercise equipment, free weights, and resistance training equipment, basketball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness classes, and more.

We also offer group exercise classes, specialty series, fitness challenges, and skills workshops.
You are entitled to three 45-minute fitness consultations with a fitness specialist who will provide an orientation and customize a fitness program based on individual needs.
To use our facility, you need to complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form and an onsite health and fitness assessment. Sometimes you need someone to talk to
Taking care of your mental health and emotional well-being is important. Physical activity definitely helps to de-stress. But, when things get tough, talking helps too.
